They didn't intentionally lie. Colin Powell was against the Iraq war and he was the one to present the evidence to the UN. Their intelligence was simply bad, probably because Hussein was purposely trying to mislead everybody so as to look tough in front of Iran.

There was bullshit in that people on the other side were intentionally attacking the Iraq war for their own political gain. Also, the whole accusation of lying thing was pretty polarizing, and didn't really do anyone much good (made liberals hate Bush, and the conservatives rally to his side).

Besides, what proof do you have that they lied?

Also, we can chalk the paranoia about Iraq to neoconservative stupidity. Iran, by contrast, has been attacking America for quite some time now with terrorist cells and other strategies.
