You don't seem to understand what he was saying.

The point of prison, on some level, is to rehabilitate the prisoners so that they won't repeat the crime (currently a huge chunk of prisoners are repeat offenders.)

Most of them didn’t give a fuck in the first place and sure as hell won’t give a fuck when they get out of prison no matter what you do.

However, in the current system the prisoners who go there learn better ways to commit crimes, they increase the contacts within the criminal community, etc. -- mainly because the influence of gangs in prison (especially here in the CA-NV-AZ, etc. area.)

And your point is? What type of rehad will change this?

Quote
The inmates may not care, but we should care because it is in the interest of the greater good of society.

I do care about society. I'd love to see them nerve gas all the animals at institutions like Pelican Bay. Perhaps this would make murders, rapists and armed robbers reconsider their actions before acting upon them. This is true rehabilitation, proactive instead of reactive.

e/ You can also add executives such as those at ENRON and AIG to the nerve gas line.

Just the fact that you want to nerve gas people shows that you are no better than any other criminal. You have a desire to see someone die and you justify it by choosing the criminals to be those that die.

How hypocritical that you can be against something & support it at the same time.

I see... "animals". You justify your beliefs by dehumanizing.

I see a similarity here with how slavery was justified in the 1800s. You going to argue for that as well?

I see how it is... since you lack an argument you resort to this childlike behavior.

I see no reason to continue arguing with you. Hopefully somebody else will chime in on your behalf.

He's making a very valid point, and you are not.
I agree with you that AIG executives are criminals, but wouldn't it be much more satisfying watching them break their fucking backs on a daily basis through hard labor, instead of just terminating their life as worthless?

Quote (jjarv @ Mar 10 2010 09:12pm)
Let me know when you want to accept the fact that prison work programs put people out of work. I'll be happy to post the studies.

Prison labor should be limited to self-sufficiency and nothing more.

I thought that one main objective for reintegration was to "give back to the community" so, why not create products or services that are free for the surrounding communities? We can all use a little more free can't we?

I agree with self sustainability, simply because the burden on tax payers is unjust, regardless of how much we all want justice and peace, why should it cost us anything at all, when the guilty party could pay for everything, as they should? Why not take it a step further and have them do more than just look after themselves?

That still doesn't change how hypocritical your suggestions were. And that is what I was addressing.

I'm not here to give a solution. In fact, I never even presented one, so I don't see where you are going with this..

Discussion is pretty powerful.
