An atheist (generally speaking) is someone who opposes religion in it's whole.
Like I said, there are many religions that do not pay homage to a god eg. Buddhism.
Saying an atheist is someone who does not believe in god is like saying a religious person is someone who does.
It's a stereotypical generalisation.

A religious person is someone who follows a religion.

An atheist is someone who doesn't go in for theism. It's right there in the name.

I guess you can get extra granular and say that it's more about not believing in any religion rather than in Gods specifically, but it's really just nitpicking.

The topic is about Christians.
So I'm assuming Hammer_Hdin is talking about the Christian god when he says "Somebody who doesn't believe in god."
You can't narrow a belief down to something so bland like that unless your belief is not strong or you have no idea what you are talking about.

Well, in the context of Christianity, that's the main contrast. Someone who doesn't believe in the Christian god (or any other God, or the precepts of any religion at all.)

Of course, that doesn't mean that hdin isn't a fucking retard. He obviously is.
