I'm not saying he should have been canceled, but does anyone on here even watch that show?

This is the govt threatening the parent company. How do you deny this when they've said it so plainly?

Carr, whom Trump had nominated as FCC chair, told right-wing commentator Benny Johnson earlier Wednesday that Kimmel’s comments were “truly sick,” and said there was a “strong case” for action against ABC and Disney.

“This is a very, very serious issue right now for Disney. We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr told Johnson. “These companies can find ways to take action on Kimmel, or there is going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

“They have a license granted by us at the FCC, and that comes with it an obligation to operate in the public interest,” Carr said.

The FCC in March told Disney and ABC that it was launching an investigation of the companies’ efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion, known as DEI.

Also the topic of whistleblowrs in public institutions and government monitoring of journalists (which i do disagree with) are entirely different categories from the issue in the op

It’s the government actively censoring someone, which is even a step further than you asked. The previous administration pressured multiple social media companies to censor "dissident" voices.

ABC is just getting rid of costly dead weight, they weren’t forced. Maybe in the future they will follow the obligations they agreed to in order to keep their license.

It had a viewership of <150,000 in the 18-49 age group at the end, so no.

Whistleblowers in the public sector are a more complex issue because countries obviously dont want disgruntled employees leaking state secrets.

If you are still going to insist ABC wasnt forced after the fcc chair is on record threatening their licensing if they dont do something about kimmel.... im gonna assume youre just trolling and enjoying all this nonsense at this point.

Meanwhile, Trump got the US 10% of NVidia ostensibly as a bribe to avoid regulation, got stake in Intel, and now NVidia is investing 5 billion into Intel and "collaborating"

Separately, the Saudis put 2 billion into Trump's crypto and a week later UAE got chips

The second he started depressing the American economy with tariffs I knew it was to extort entire industries

No mention of the other examples you were given of previous admins actually pressuring private companies to censor americans? I’m gonna assume you’re just trolling and enjoyinh all this nonsense at this point.

Trump had Brendan Carr who is chairman of the FCC reach out to Disney/ABC and stated they would pull billions from funding if Kimmel wasn't taken care of. This wasn't just ABC deciding they didn't like what Kimmel said. This was the federal government stripping away rights

All that for a milquetoast jab and a shot of Trump responding to his grief over Kirk by talking about the construction of the new Trump ballroom
