This article, posted this morning, explains why the Democrats might have no choice but to take Harris should Biden drop out.

Summary

* They have to pick the candidate before August 7, or they will not be on the Ballot in Ohio (which will be done virtually). By the way, why is the Democratic convention after August 7? The Olympics got in the way, and they wanted to avoid competing with them for airtime.

* If they don't pick Harris, they fear it will be a Battle Royal that will destroy the Democratic Party. No one is going to fall in line with Gavin Newsom, the Privileged rich white guy who went to an exclusive boarding school. She is an easier sell.

* Lastly, and this might be the most important. Campaign finance rules state that if it is not Harris, the hundreds of millions of dollars Biden/Harris have raised cannot be transferred to the next candidate. So unless it is JB Pritzker (a billionaire richer than Trump) who will commit $1 billion of his own money immediately, the non-Harris nominee starts with zero dollars ... four months before the election.

Cool they’re both old, and one is in obvious mental decline that’s palpable and the other one isn’t. It’s the mental decline that’s the real issue, not age, because that’s what’s actually important when you’re running the country.
