I'm just trying to understand how they actually backed into that number. I mean our justice system in theory is based on the four R's, with one of them being restitution. Restitution is easy when it's something quantifiable i.e. you stole 10k in merch, so restitution is that plus some additional fine or w.e. . Now obviously it's a lot more difficult with things like pain and suffering but when the guy has a net worth of 9 million and the fine is 1.5 billion, representing over 160x his worth, in what universe does that make sense and is proportional? It'd be the equivalent of me hitting someone's car drunk driving and having to buy his whole extended family to the 3rd cousin brand new cars, a few homes as well just for good measure. This feels just like some form of vengeance where you tell some sap to go rebuild real replicas of pyramid of Giza as punishment.
To me IMO, this kind of denigrates the victims here. Using your dead kid as a payday. Lawyers using the dead kids as a payday. The whole thing is just off-putting.

None of it is even remotely "equivocal". Why do you think people who can think KNOW this is a GIANT LEAP in the wrong direction. You can hate Alex Jones that's fine and he is a free speech absolutist so he won't sue you 10 years later for a TRILLION dollars in "emotional damages".
If the parents of the victims wanted to move forward in their life and try and find peace they wouldn't have went after the boogie man "Alex Jones" they should've went after big pharma knowing full well Adam Lanza was on multiple Anti-Psychotics/SSRI's when he went and SOULESSLY killed those children. They could've sued big pharma for billions and won considering some of the medications he was on say on the insert, "May make you homicidal" / "May make you lose sense of reality".
Instead they sued the gun maker and Alex Jones.

they chose a number so big they could liquidate him and avoid anyone swooping in to pay it off. if it were something like 20 million, MAYBE a reasonable number, some group of silent investors could pay that off easily. 1.5 billy tho? no chance. so they'll melt him down and even if the families see next to zero cash they'll feel good thinking their greatest enemy is ruined. then he can just start a new company, host a show for almost nothing on X, and they'll realize only the lawyers won.

Alex Jones will only get bigger because of this and only the lawyers win like you said.
Literally everywhere Alex Jones goes and when his name is spoken it goes hand and hand with "Sandy Hook". The parents don't get their children back and Sandy Hook gets talked about 12 years after it happened. Will continue to get talked about even more when Infowars gets shut down and people ask "why was it shutdown"...
