If by "coherent defense" you mean spew lies with charisma, then sure lol. Both parties need to look away from Biden / Trump.

Ultimately yes.

Every debate has a bit of showmanship in it and if you base yourself on weak arguments (e.g. lies) you can be called out and lose the debate.

Trump leans too much on showmanship and charisma (IMO) and gets caught up in the detail which gets debunked and he looks silly. This carried him in business, but public eye and transparency surrounding it means you need to be more of a "lawyer" type and cover your bases instead of bullying your way through.
