A nice example of how guns are not always necessary when dealing with a mentally deranged individual trying to attack a school (especially when armed with knives).

This happened at the Scala College in Alphen aan den Rijn, where a 44-year old man walked onto the school grounds yelling to the students that he was going to stab them. The man was known to the police, and is in a mental health treatment (we have designated mental health living groups for such trajectories). The knives have been confiscated.

Of course you can make the argument that this man wasn't actually trying to kill, but it is an instance that shows the safety of a (relatively) gun-free country.

I'd probably ignore the guy with the knives and attack the women for screaming. So annoying.

Guns could have prevented this

that was great. Interesting to hear an interview with his perspective.

"oh we have the police here, we are safe" --> "as soon as the gun-fighting started they ran away"

The LA riots are often used as an example of the benefits of private ownership of firearms and rifles being used for defense. Easy to see why.

The thing is, the countries he mentioned, in the post enlightened societies, ppl don't need a gun to defend themselves (a bag with heavy books works as well). That's where their freedom comes from.
Iceland, as an example has a lot of gun, but they don't see it a way to defend. Because that would automatically suggest that the gun is meant to aim at other ppl. And that part is not within their culture.

The right to own a gun can imo apply if it does not relate towards it being freedom, but a sport to be practiced, and it is not needed to defend oneself.
/e: This is somewhat where the NRA comes in. With easy to understand punchlines.
