I fucking LOVED the shit out of MtG from roughly 1997-2005, but then left it behind because of a lack of time and friends who still played. It's one of the things in life that I regret, but coming back now would make no sense, and I still dont really have the time or energy to get back into the game. For me, MtG is one of those sweet childhood memories which are best left untouched, because trying to turn the wheel of time back would be destined to disappoint.
well one thing you have going for you as a return player in 2019 is the power creep is so high that like all pre-2015 magic cards are not worth running. other than some select rares that fit into decks its all about modern mechanics.
also draft format means u can just show up to an event for like 10$ and play, then keep the cards. but there's a lot of mechanics you'd have to research to have a good time.
there are also some really good online platforms, none are ground breaking but can be fun. I've played MTG arena a bunch and it's a lot of fun, free to play, etc.
