Rep or Dems, if you haven't fixed the immigration loopholes, fixed education, passed USMCA, reduce deficit spending and the only thing you can get unanimous support for is your own selfish desires, you deserve a cut in salary.

They've had a pay freeze for a decade

This is never good optics and will be DOA with Republicans but it's not an outrageous attempt. The public never approves no matter the economic conditions because they are easy targets for personal frustration. Maybe people should stop electing a lot of the same people over and over if they have such an issue with performance
