Not all atheists share such cynical views of humanity.

I mean the problem is that there is some validity to that perspective. It’s bad only because it is justifiable to feel like that in the modern world. People know so much and have come so far in such a short time, but we have never transcended beyond our escalation of leaving scorched Earth as we advanced ourselves. We degrade the planet rather than applying knowledge to learn to be non destructive, or at the very least sustainable. Probably don’t have to bring up all the extinctions we as a species have caused, and the countless more that went unnoticed.

I agree with you that pessimism is unproductive, but have to empathize and sympathize because it is unfortunately a valid position.

I'm broadly disinterested in positions that do not offer a viable, productive, sustainable path forward--irrespective of so-called 'validity'. If all one has to offer is a sentiment of tragedy, then spare the audience.

You're asking how not spending resources in Europe helps us spend resources in Asia? We're spending real, exhaustible reserves of weaponry in order to defeat a country we were never actually at war with. Why not destroy South Africa's military? Or Brazil's? India's?
