seriously, guys? that's the whole point: americans are NOT somehow uniquely 'selfish' (bailouts aren't 'popular' anywhere, but still accepted as necessary in some cases) - so you CAN compare our understanding of 'solidarity'.
to make that claim only when it comes to SOCIAL programs is therefore idiotic. got it now?
