Dude, we (the US) have only been selling crude... recently. You act like China (for a few years) not buying our crude will crush our economy. It won't. Our best exports are agriculture, r/d, manufacturing etc.
Oil isn't really an important export for us. So gaining an ace in the hole for later, to me... IS a good thing.

the thing is, the strategic confrontation with China was a long time coming, it was inevitable. if trump's strategy is showing signs of working, if the chinese show cracks under the pressure he puts on, there is a decent chance that his successor will continue this confrontation. now that Trump has put those tariffs in place, it will be much easier for a democrat to let them remain in effect than it would have been to be the one introducing them.

Like I said three times now.. Trump caused China to in effect "back down". Whether or not it's a direct financial gain for the US is not the issue. The fact that before the entire world... China recanted, IS the important thing.

china has increased it's tariffs and is planning to increase them more.

but HEY NOW, they did reduce the tariff on the good they dont buy. so there's that.

China backed down. The reason doesn't matter. Sure, China plays the long game, BUT... out of all the meetings between the US and China, since Trump took office, China has never backed down until this one.
To the Chinese, this was a defeat. THAT is what makes it a win for us.

The Chinese even have a word for it...it's embedded in their philosophy. I don't know what the word is, but it's something about losing face.
It has nothing to do with money or barrels of oil. It concerns being the one to back down.

To someone from the western world this isn't important... it's always the money that's important.
This just isn't the case in the oriental world. It's a totally different philosophy. Maybe you should do some research on it.

I can't claim I did any active research on it, but living in California, I learned it easily enough.
