first of all, a lot of rape victims and women who engaged in incest will not have stated this reason and instead opted for the "no reason"-answer. so this data is almost certainly extremely biased, to the point of being worthless.

second, even if it affects only very few cases, forcing women to carry her rapists child or an incest baby is inhumane insanity. even among pro-lifers, a large majority is in favor for making an exception in these cases.

duh? no one claimed rape/incest/health made up a majority of abortions. just that any law banning abortion outright should have exemptions. and that's something anyone should be able to get behind, because it's only 1 in 1000.

I'm not "for" the "total" abortion ban. But I do agree that it has become no more than a... "Well I don't feel like it" solution, which I do believe is wrong.
Way back in the Kavanaugh hearings when folks were arguing about R vs W, I said something like...

We define murder as the killing of a sentient being, and we probably shouldn't be indiscriminately killing fetus' until we KNOW when they first think: "I am".

/e As for the Florida stats... I would think they are fairly accurate. At least I have no reason to think they aren't. Not in the US anyway.

flies are sentinent beings too. we smack them indiscriminately nonetheless. "sentinent being" is far too broad a brush.

newborn babies dont have a fully developed self-awareness yet, it doesnt come until after about 15-24 months.
so we actually do know that unborn childs dont think "I am" (in the sense of Descartes which you probably referred to) yet.

social desirability bias is a real issue in these types of surveys, and anything involving sexual violence is known for massive underreporting anyway.

I think they are doing the: "ask your dad for a dollar, when all you really want is a quarter".

I think these state govts. expect to... back down a bit, yet still get what they wanted in the first place... more realistic abortion laws. They can always bring it up for vote again and this time go with....

I dunno... maybe the six week option, ONLY if the mnother's life is in danger, rape, incest.

anti abortion people all have the same problem. none of them just say "i want to reduce abortion by as much as i can". they say "abortion is immoral, and it's our god given purpose to end it. 100%, all of it."

that's exaggerated ofc. but it's illustrating what i mean. when u take the moral high ground you can't let "exceptions" sneak through. they feel emboldened by religion, so it's gods plan the girl got raped by her dad and might now die delivering. it was her time.

just how gullible are you? it's blatantly obvious what they are doing: crafting legislation that is so controversial (illegal) that it will end up before the supreme court, trying to overturn roe v. wade with the scotus stacked with members specifically chosen based on their stance regarding this issue...

This isn't a question of moral high ground at all. It's a question of responsibility and the LACK of folks assuming responsibilities for their actions...

religion implies a moral high ground.

wtf are you even talking about? religious people want to shut down abortion because their religion says no and they want everyone to be affected by the morals of their religion.

like are you reading? or just waiting to post your next shit meme?
