Turns out when the economy shrinks the government spending gets higher by comparison, and the government has to spend more to prop it up, who da think it?

Also fast growing countries tend to be developing and not have the means for a larger government, however larger economies cannot grow as much as a percentage and the government has the means to do more public services.

Or they start spending and wasting money on excessive amounts of trivial garbage, and as the bureaucracy swells its more inefficient and inhibits growth.
