A fair amount of international public figures and politicians speaking about Trump's censoring.

Angela Merkel

German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s spokesperson on Monday said Twitter’s decision to ban Trump from its platform is “problematic”, adding that the freedom of opinion is of “elementary significance”.

“This fundamental right can be intervened in, but according to the law and within the framework defined by legislators, not according to a decision by the management of social media platforms,” Steffen Seibert told reporters in Berlin. “Seen from this angle,” he said, “the chancellor considers it problematic that the accounts of the US president have now been permanently blocked.”

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador blasted the decision to ban Trump from social media sites, adding that it was a “bad sign” that private companies have the authority to censor opinions.

“I don’t like anybody being censored or taking away from the right to post a message on Twitter or Facebook. I don’t agree with that, I don’t accept that,” Lopez Obrador said during a regular news conference on Friday.

“A court of censorship like the Inquisition to manage public opinion: this is really serious,” he said.

Alexey Navalny

In a lengthy thread on Twitter, Russian opposition figure and Kremlin critic Alexey Navalny blasted the move as “an unacceptable act of censorship” adding that the decision, which was “based on emotions and personal political preferences”, could serve as a precedent to clamp down of freedom of speech elsewhere.

I don't have an issue with any private platform banning somebody for pretty much any reason. You aren't entitled to a platform.

My issue is that we need to generally apply anti-trust laws more strictly. The oligopoly in social media is not unique, it's that way in virtually every industry and it's a result of allowing endless mergers and unchecked corporate power. We need to fix this underlying problem that violates far more rights than just speech.

Everything Amazon brought to Parler's attention was taken down. Meanwhile, "hangpence" trended on Twitter with 14,000 Tweets No such action was taken with Twitter. Meanwhile, AWS had a contract that required a 30 day notice to terminate, they gave less than 30 hours, and they shared the notice with the media over an hour BEFORE sending it to Parler.

Amazon was just giving examples. I think the issue is that Parler has an inadequate moderation process AND there is an abundance of bad press that is causing fallout for other companies. If what you say is true, then I agree that it's a breach of contract and Amazon shouldn't have done that. Amazon probably did a quick financial calculation and determined that any sort of revenue lost due to a lawsuit is smaller than a boycott from other companies. Amazon has some pretty stiff competition when it comes to hosting. I think that's pretty shitty of Amazon but I understand why they did that.

Hmmm yes. Getting kicked off twitter is definitely the same thing as getting murdered.

Indeed, you are the wisest of us all.

I think it was 2012. A famous satire magazine in France did some stuff about Mohammad and some muslims shot up the building.
