But still... even then, many of those woke white women activists seem to genuinely believe that they/we are living in the most oppressive, racist, sexist, unequal society ever. The types to say "Trump is literally Hitler" and actually seriously mean it.
In sociology, it's called "affluent neglect". Persons who are living a too privileged, worriless, cushy life tend to become delusional and lose all sense of reality and perspective.

i think that's for sure part, and i think there's an argument that they feel so morally correct that they find stretching the truth to be acceptable. if u can make a few white people sad about being white by lying the world is still a better place, to them.

it's of course tosh, and they'd catch more people with facts than feelings. but facts are hard to generate, feelings are easy

It's my main gripe with contemporary politics in general: they have become totally emotionalized and moralized. Facts and reason have come to play second fiddle to outrage, tribalism and moralism. (From both sides of the aisle!)

while i agree it's a big problem it makes logical sense. the internet has made "facts" change, functionally. people disagree so heavily about the facts that they're looking for common ground, which ironically becomes subjective grounds. emotions, name calling, labeling, etc.

It was the political right which started weaponizing morality for political purposes. It were left-leaning and pro-establishment journalists who started introducing more and more bias into their coverage, to the point where trust in the media is eroding and everyone is accusing everyone else of fake news. It was the political left which started abandoning the ordinary working-class people and their interests in favor of fighting for the particular interests of ever-narrowing groups of oppressed and disadvantaged people. It were and still are think tanks of the super rich which facilitated this shift of focus among the left from economic questions towards identity politics. It was third- and fourth-wave feminism which started poisoning the relationship between men and women. And so on.

All those things occurred before the internet rose to prominence in the late 90s. The internet just amplified those noxious trends.

it has roots for certain in the past behavior. facebook was the moment that the blood born pathogen went airborne.
