I actually largely agree with you: I agree with you that the people should be armed to a certain degree. I agree with you that the control of the government/those in power is a lot thinner than it seems. I agree with you that armed civilians are one of the best insurances against the emergence of a true dictatorship.

All I'm saying is that bump stocks are not a vital part of these considerations. Bump stocks simply dont make the difference.

Bump stocks will not make the difference between a military that is able to subdue public rebellion by force and one that fails to do so. And when a despotic government wants to oppress its revolting people and considers the pros and cons of deploying the military for this purpose, then bump stocks wont affect the calculation of the expected "damage to our own country" by enough to change the decision on the use of the military.
