The US are a huge-ass country, each major party candidate receives tens of millions of votes. You will always have racists, bigots, murderers, pedophiles and nutcases among the coalition of each candidate. What matters if if these unsavory figures make up a substantial portion of a candidate's base or hold outsized influence on his/her policies.

Is anything I wrote wrong, though? The general point is universal and not limited to US politics, namely that "there is [reprehensible persons] supporting candidate X" doesn't discredit X unless [reprehensible group] makes up a significant portion of X's coalition.
