oh my, so much to unpack. first of all, it's completely normal that prominent senators, and especially presidential candidates get attacked - often on a very personal level (as an avid trump supporter you should know that, after all he established completely new standards in that regard - but even before him it was republicans with a slight lead in that department), but not only did mccain receive significantly fewer personal attacks than obama, he also was universally commended for shutting down the geriatric birther bigots during that one town hall. i guess democrats already knew back then that mccain would oppose trump 11 years later?!

i mean, it'd be stupid to deny that his opposition to trump contributed to some of the praise he got - but your simplistic narrative that that was the only reason for 'the left' to praise mccain, that it is somehow 'fake' to recognise him as the better character (something even you admit) in this feud, is just ridiculous and pure fiction. and don't even get me started about the even more retarded part (that i acknowledge you distanced yourself from - at least for now), that saying nice things about mccain implies support of his policies - something regularly suggested by the cult. also, let's not forget that mccain was already terminally ill, which also softens the judgement of many, if not most people.

lastly, i want to quickly come back to your post that i wrongly mistook for an attempt to make excuses for trump's pettiness and lack of class: what and who did "it is neither petty nor disrespectful to point this out" refer to then? because i don't think anyone apart from trump was seriously accused of pettiness or lack of respect for pointing out mccain's flaws when commenting on his policies...

You can be respectful and decent towards someone while having serious disagreements on policy. It's sort of a necessary aspect of being an adult. Going after McCain in this way 7 months after he died of brain cancer is petty and cruel.
