“It is impossible for a person to mount two horses and to stretch two bows.
And it is impossible for a servant to serve two masters. Else he will honor the one and insult the other.
No person drinks old wine and immediately desires to drink new wine.
And new wine is not put into old wineskins, so that they do not burst; nor is old wine put into (a) new wineskin, so that it does not spoil it.
An old patch is not sewn onto a new garment, because a tear will result.”

You know the president is great if the only thing you can complain about in your life is tough steak.

I understand you have a visceral reaction to hawkish politicians, but a few things:

- McCain was never disgraced. He upset the nutters in 2008 by not calling Obama a secret Muslim terrorist from Kenya. He upset Fox News watchers because he tried to compromise. He upset Trump because he was the polar opposite... a guy who took his privilege and lived a life of service. Not a privileged life of pornstars and skyscrapers. In life and in death McCain is respected by sane Republicans and Democrats alike. Historians will look at McCain much differently than Trump.

- Yes, McCain was very hawkish. He supported a number of conflicts. But so did most politicians. Trump voiced his support for many of these wars. So I'm having trouble understanding your argument. Do you simply disagree with my characterization of McCain, or do you think the POTUS should insult all of the living and dead political war hawks? Even though Trump continues the war on terror, as well as many of the hawkish policies that McCain supported.

Of course, that's putting aside the real reason Trump shits on McCain, which has nothing to do with his foreign policy views.

- McCain may be responsible for the deaths of those he killed in Vietnam. But if you want to blame everybody who supported a war for every death in that war, Trump is also to blame for every death in all the wars he supported(and currently supports).

The main point is that even if you disagree with someone's policy, there's a basic level of decency and morality that healthy human beings tend to follow. Especially if they hold high office. But Trump violates that because he's a horrible person, and the moral wimps who support him don't care.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/new-jersey-teen-claims-trump-support-cost-him-entry-into-national-honor-society

4.0 FPA young republican high schooler did his 200 hours community service to check every box for his National Honors Society application and was rejected by his school because of his support for Trump
He had attended CPAC 2019 and shook hands with DTJr, and had access to a school instagram account where he regularly posted inspiration quotes from random celebrities / characters like marcus aurelius, yoda, drake, etc. One day he posts an innocuous Trump quote "I like big ideas", and the school deletes the post and take away his control, with some staff apparently calling him a "monarch" (?) and saying "he was not representing the ideals of the class." He posted it to his own facebook account, and wore a "Make Holmdel Great Again" t-shirt in protest. Then when he applied for NHS, despite fulfilling every single qualification, he was denied by the school citing "character flaw" without any specification beyond "didn’t meet their character and leadership standards." They provided no example or explanation, just those vague wordings. The superintendent weighed in and insisted that "I can confirm that political affiliation is not a consideration for National Honor Society acceptance and that no student would be denied admittance to NHS based on his/her political speech or political party affiliation," but provided no explanation for why he was denied, and the national office of the NHS clarified that the decision is left solely up to the local school.

Now he's going to meet with Trump in the white house.

Well, possibly. Possibly the Dems always had respect for McCain. But they sure didnt show a lot of it before McCain began feuding with Trump, voting down the Obamacare repeal and so on...

At the end of the day, McCain was a war hero who lived a life of decency and service, but unfortunately, the policies he pursued in this 'life of service' were utter garbage.
He was a decent man with horrible policies, and it is neither petty nor disrespectful to point this out amid the sea of faked, weaponized adulation from the left.

when you're such a hack that you can't distinguish between pointing out his flaws when commenting on his policies (something we agree on), and repeatedly being a petty jerk about him without a reason except from a hurt fragile ego.
it's funny how you apparently are allowed to distinguish between his demeanour and his policies, but when 'the left' does the same it's just 'weaponised adulation' - double standards much?

the lengths you go through to make flimsy excuses for your cult leader. pathetic really...

What the fuck are you even talking about? I have consistently and repeatedly called Trump out for his shitty, disrespectful comments on McCain. Trump is going way too far, and it's moronic anyway to keep on feuding with a dead man.

I was merely pointing out that there is fake adulation from the left which serves only one purpose: to shit on Trump using McCain as a tool; and that I therefore disagree with IceMage's notion that "McCain is respected by Republicans and Democrats alike".

But I guess this degree of nuance is too much for you to understand.

i apologise for the first point then, looked to me like you were defending trump's comments, but fair enough, so we both think it's classless, petty, and moronic. and like i said, we also agree on mccain's positions regarding international affairs...

regarding my second point, however, it's still a double standard that YOU are allowed to distinguish between policy and character, but when anyone on 'the left' does it and says something kind about him, it's just 'weaponised adulation'. in reality that's pure bs ofc - the trump cult got triggered hard by him and looked for excuses to smear both mccain and 'the left' - so they just baselessly claimed that positive comments about his character somehow implied support for his warmongering, which ofc is completely retarded. so much for your own 'nuance'...

the left was trashing his character as well, for example during the 2008 campaign. they distinguish between his policies (which they dont like) and his character (which they lately liked), but that's where the hypocrisy comes in: they only found their love for his character once he became a foe to Trump, and once they realized that the immense difference in character between Trump and McCain allowed them to trash Trump's character by praising McCain's.
