For the same reason we went to Nam... those that were "being killed and abused" asked us to come. If the US needed oil like the memes all claim, wouldn't it be smarter for the US just to go to say...Venezuela.

Keep in mind that map of proven oil reserves was made by the US...we have much more oil than is shown. :/

Afghanistan was harboring terrorists. Iraq was believed to have chemical weapons. Vietnam was to stop the global threat of communist dictatorship.

Your older friend faces unfortunate hardships that no one deserves. There are arguments to be made that the Iraq war was unnecessary but the real reasons are out of all of our hands. The Gov makes decisions based on limited information in wartime and those decisions have mixed consequences that are both good and bad and when you add an element of chaos and diversity there's room for quite a bit of collateral damage even with good intentions and proper methods.

Well unless your friend went to Japan in WW II, he wasn't fighting in OUR war. The ONLY place the US went that someone didn't ask for us to come was Japan in WW II. And they invited us over when they blew the fuck out of Pearl Harbor.

Australia had zero issue with terrorism before afghanistan and iraq, many australians lost their lives in the bali bombings as a direct result of our help to the us.
So where does ghot get off posting this CRAP about no one putting the us before their own citizens?
Australia has never once failed to back the us up in a single conflict dating back to the second world war.
