It is an interesting switch. As much as there's a Trump cult, to a lesser degree there's an anti-Trump cult of sorts. Of course, context matters here as well. Democrats didn't just wake up one morning and decide they hate Russia for no reason...

Interventionism is the norm in American foreign policy, and every president post 9/11 is hesitant to withdraw from the fight against radical Islam. Greenwald said Obama campaigned on pulling troops out of Afghanistan, but in 2009 there was the Afghanistan surge. Trump is less inclined to listen to his advisers, and more inclined to follow his gut/Ann Coulter's gut. There's also the obvious point that even if Trump is enacting policy someone might agree with, he does it in a shitty way. Waking up one morning and deciding to announce we're leaving Syria in 30 days without coordinating with our allies/his own government first is bad process. I think many people on both sides like that we're talking to the North Koreans, but Trump manages to fuck it up by saying the threat is over and Kim Jong Un is a great guy. He's incapable of doing things the right way.

I'm not as negative on Trump as you are, but yeah, he often times does the right things the wrong way.

He should be criticized and held to a high standard as all power should

The curve and low bar for this president are unacceptable

Politicians hold power and deserve to be held accountable, the president more than the rest.

Complacency and political apathy in the name of patriotism is people inflicting self harm in my view

the real problem is that for conservatives, there is no viable alternative. in a two-party system, you're stuck with your side's guy. for conservatives who dont like trump or what he does, the choice ultimately will still be between kamala harris/ elizabeth warren or donald trump. this situation naturally lowers the bar for trump: the majority of republicans and republican-leaning voters will only break with him if he does something which is so horrible that even GOP voters prefer a President Harris to it.

seems like a good idea given the person can be vetted enough to know that they are not going to pose further harm.

step 1 of the vetting process: "Did you commit treason and make war upon America or its allies, or plan terrorist attacks upon America or its allies?"
The NYT published an op-ed by a terrorist who joined the taliban and al-qaeda and conducted at least three raids on US troops and planned a bombing of the NY commuter train system during thanksgiving rush

hmmmmmmmmm

kinda fishy, isnt it? ^_^

I mean... sure, a flipped terrorist could be very helpful in the fight against terrorism.
But is there a surefire way of knowing if a person has really flipped to our side and isnt just pretending while plotting a new attack on our soil?
And does he really have to be brought into the country and roam our streets to share his knowledge, or could he do that from a military base in the Middle East?

Allegedly, Fox News "killed" the Stormy Daniels affair and hush money story in order to protect Trump before the election.

Quote (The Hill)
An editor at Fox News killed a report prior to the 2016 presidential election revealing that President Trump engaged in an affair with adult-film actress Stormy Daniels years ago, The New Yorker reported on Monday.

According to the magazine, former FoxNews.com reporter Diana Falzone "had obtained proof" of the affair and confirmed it with several key sources, including Daniels and her ex-husband. Falzone had also reportedly obtained emails between Daniels’s attorney and Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen that showed that Cohen had proposed to pay cash to Daniels in exchange for a nondisclosure agreement.

But the report was never published, according to The New Yorker, which added that former Fox News executive Ken LaCorte ultimately told Falzone to "let it go."

“Good reporting, kiddo. But Rupert [Murdoch] wants Donald Trump to win. So just let it go," LaCorte reportedly said.

Fox News denies this happened, and instead says that the story was killed because they were unable to verify all of the facts. However:

According to The New Yorker, LaCorte denied making that comment to Falzone, but one of Falzone’s colleagues confirmed having heard the account.

Falzone later sued Fox and reached a settlement that includes a nondisclosure agreement, which prevents her from speaking about the Daniels story, the magazine added.

dont laugh, but when you're singing up for a job in public service here in germany, you have to fill out a lengthy questionaire. it contains about 15 different iterations and variations of "are you a member of scientology" and "are you really not a member of scientology". but even more absurd is one of the first items, which asks "have you ever committed, or been indicted of, crimes against humanity?"

"I guess I'll still get the job if I check 'yes'?!"
