me: post a meme about sunderland voting overwhelmingly for brexit and brexit being part of the reason they are losing jobs.

you: b-b-but brexit is often blamed when it has nothing to do with it.

me: true, but that's clearly not the case here, brexit is definitely a relevant factor, so stop making those lazy pivots.

you: well i technically never said it wasn't

me: true, but it's obvious what you were trying to do there, replying to my post with a generalised apologetic observation

you: let me go full r...

no, just too many deflections and apologetic narratives - not that i'd expect you to acknowledge that, obviously...

For the British car industry, the "no deal" would be "catastrophic"
Investment in the sector collapsed in 2018 and production decreased by 9%.

"A Brexit without agreement is possible in less than two months, and it would be catastrophic," sighs Mike Hawes, CEO of the Society of Motors Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the industry lobby.

British Prime Minister Theresa May persists and signs. In a tribune published Sunday, February 3 by The Sunday Telegraph, the conservative leader reaffirmed her determination "to implement Brexit (...) in time", by March 29, despite the categorical refusal of Brussels to renegotiate the divorce agreement between Great Britain and the European Union (EU).

A pretty key point has been missed about Nissan. The new EU/Japan free trade arrangement could well have encouraged Nissan to keep XTrail production in Japan. It’s not moving production from Sunderland to elsewhere in EU.

I had the same thought, but as far as I understand it, they announced the cancellation of the X-trail production in Sunderland before Jefta was made offcial. Perhaps they had very good sources inside the negotiating team and knew that Jefta was a 100% sure deal before it became official, but I wouldnt bet on it.

In the Conservative party, the Brexiteers are now softening their stance of supporting a hard exit on 29th March and not supporting May's deal even with the backstop removed. Jacob Rees Mogg and co are now rightfully scared that without them compromising on their fantasies, we'll either have a backstop arrangement or not leave the EU at all. This is a significant shift and one that surprised me; it's nothing short of incredible how Theresa May is still prime minister AND has regained support within the party. At this point it's good for the country because she's going back to Brussels with a mandate to renegotiate.

Smells like that farmer I read about. Struggling to find field workers, crying that he has lost his excellent eu workers because of brexit... Moves (part of) farm out of UK to find new field workers..... To China.

My bet: She will humiliate herself and her country, again.

My understanding is she's going back to get rid of the backstop and implement 'technology' at the Ireland border. It would require a huge investment and has never been attempted in history, plus experts in the field are sceptical as to whether it'd work. So I can't see it ending well unless she's got something else up her sleeve.

She'll try to do it without the use of non-exiting technology or there won't be a deal to start from at the 29th.
