A previous statement of hers about Roe v. Wade isn't as bad as it could be in my lefty SJW mind: "The fundamental element, that the woman has a right to choose abortion, will probably stand. The controversy right now is about funding. It's a question of whether abortions will be publicly or privately funded."

Folks on the right have their eyes on Roe v. Wade with Trump getting so many nominations, so we'll see if this statement withstands both the test of time and ensuing pressure should she be confirmed.

I see abortion tourism in the future until it is solidified in the constitution.

as if de facto banning abortions (for everyone who isn't a mistress of some republican scumbag hypocrite) without having to make it law in *current year* hasn't been the playbook in every single red state ever since roe v. wade anyway...

Either that, or if we could at least get folks on the right to actually become sex positive and be concerned with preventing unplanned pregnancy even at 1/50th the level they care about preventing abortion.

It's certainly been on the radar, but previous court compositions made attempts to overturn Roe untenable. Should Trump get another confirmation, then it could actually become viable.

fortunately that election-interfering prussian-soviet wannabe bot known as fender (aka heinrich von goebbels) has zero influence on the Supreme Court nominations or any true American feeling on any nominees

the problem is that the intellectual contagion that has affected his family for generations is now spreading to america. I'm not Catholic but I'm praying for you guys.

It should be noted that overturning Roe v. Wade would not make abortion illegal in the whole country overnight. Most deep-blue states have trigger laws in place which will replace it, and light-blue or purple states also won't ban abortions entirely.

So if anything, it would lead to a small degree of interstate abortion tourism. Like I wrote yesterday, the only women getting the short end of the stick if Roe is overturned are poor women from deep-red states who lack the resources to drive to the next clinic in a neighboring blue state.

The Federalist society has been laying the groundworks for this for decades, and they had a Senate that was more than willing to rubber stamp candidates through. From Trump's perspective, this was just a trade-off necessary to gain conservative support.

By contrast, no one has really made a concerted attempt to help the working class. Tariffs and trade policy are one small part of that, but Trump left to his own devices was just not going to cut it.

What utter horseshit. The median income is skyrocketing.

what i'm saying is while sure, many of the religious extremists want it overturned outright and live in an evangelical theocracy, conservative lawmakers across the country have already done so effectively through measures that make it virtually impossible for poor and working class women to have access to safe and affordable procedures.

her paying lip-service to a woman's right to choose is therefore meaningless. it's what the fundamentalist intelligentsia does while closing women's health clinics and introducing laws to undermine the theoretical right to choose in practice.
