Although it is interesting we have no school shooter thread. I think it's legitimately because school shootings are just a normal occurrence these days. Might even just become an every day occurrence like gang violence.

Living in Colorado and being basically ground zero for that stuff kinda made me numb to it

There have been 5 school shootings in 2025 across 131,000 schools (k-12) in the US. I haven't bothered to check how Wikipedia is cooking the books, but rough math suggests a 1% chance of being present at a school when a school shooting occurs once per 200 years of schooling.

If anything I'd suggest your take shows just how normalized it really is.

I am quoting a wikipedia chart that attributes 5 mass shootings to school or university environments out of a total of 300+ mass shootings YTD. Normally that means a shooting with "x" number of people involved and predominately gang related killings in cities.

As much as a tragedy as this is, I am far more saddened by the publics reaction to it.

I have people I respect and enjoy working with celebrating this in a short time while I'm trying to get work done in the day.... It is a sour note.

It makes me question my reality, to be honest.

Sorry there's the confusion I am not referring to mass shootings just school shootings in general. I don't know what the defining criteria is for "mass".
