nah. he knows trump is not really principled on this, it's just an attempt to put additional pressure on the europeans to abandon the iran deal. homophobia in the US and saudi-arabia will probably not be targeted at all...

additionally it will help to change the conversation concerning the US ambassador to germany, richard grenell, to him spearheading this initiative, being the highest profile openly gay person in trump's administration - instead of his blatant attempts to threaten and intimidate german companies working on the nord stream II pipeline.

also makes for a good campaign slogan to claim 'we fought for LGBT rights world wide' - from an administration that did away with many of their protections domestically, and still tries to ban transgender people from their military.


that being said, if some good comes from it, i'll take it. shitty motives don't mean that the treatment of homosexuals in large parts of muslim majority countries isn't atrocious or shouldn't be addressed...

there simply is a difference between "not criminalizing LGBT people" and "granting LGBT people privileges and special treatment".

and who said or implied there wasn't? i'm merely stating that i fully expect trump to exploit this transparent political move in his upcoming campaigns to portray himself as trailblazer of lgbt rights, when in reality he rolled back many of their PROTECTIONS AGAINST DISCRIMINATION...
