Dems appealing to the left-most fringe of their base is the path to victory - for Trump.

At this point, only the Democrats' own incompetence can save Trump. All they need to do to win in 2020 is nominate the most boring, inoffensive, milktoast candidate they can find. So, basically, they should just reboot Bob-Dole-bot and replace the "I'm Bob Dole"-tape with "I'm not Donald Trump".

actually its shocking how they still can get that many votes with so many unlikeable, deranged and incompetent members

I'd estimate the share of voters who voted for Hillary specifically because of her personality or agenda to make up maybe one fifth to one fourth of her voters, or around 10-12% of all voters.
