As is usual under the fog of war, it sounds like some elements of the story were true, some were false. There
was a chemical attack at Douma, and people died, but the White Helmets immediately staged the scenes of the aftermath for maximum propaganda purposes, and the 'sarin' symptoms were faked. It might have been chlorine, it might have been something else, and there's still no way to know whether it was Assad's side or the rebels who actually did it.
I don't think this should come as a surprise. Nobody should have trusted what the White Helmets were putting out because we already knew they were making fake victimization for propaganda purposes, and nobody should have believed the total denial from Russia either because its Russia, and nobody smart should have trusted the US's official line on it either.
