It's one thing to make some random mistake because you can't count zeros, it's another level to double down on the stupid and defend that mistake. Fuck me, how can someone be an editorial board member of a major news outlet when they are this stupid?

It's kind of baffling to me.

The woman who tweeted it isn't an editorial board member I don't think, but writes for WaPo sometimes.

Then the MSNBC crew picked it up and handed it to Brian Williams.

He took it on air and presented it to a NYT editorial board member, who clearly thought it was accurate.

It's extraordinary. One of the dumbest clips of television news I've ever seen. At first I thought Williams was offering it up as a joke... but I guess not.

inb4 you weren’t being serious or some lie when you take this subforum more serious than anything other than your daily “my struggle” readings

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/06/us-jobs-report-february-2020.html

  • Nonfarm payrolls rose by 273,000 in February vs. a 175,000 estimate, while the unemployment rate edged lower to 3.5%.
  • Job gains were widespread, with health care adding 57,000 to lead the way.
  • December and January's estimates were revised upward by a total of 243,000.

The mild winter probably played some role in this, but still:

winning
not winning

Americans paid almost $64 billion less in federal income taxes during the first year under the Republican tax overhaul signed into law in late 2017 by President Donald Trump, with some of the sharpest drops clustered among taxpayers earning between $25,000 and $100,000 a year, even as the overall number of refunds dropped during a turbulent tax season.

That’s according to Internal Revenue Service data released this week, giving the most up-to-date look yet at how people fared at tax time in the first year of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

The data were released Monday, providing the first substantial look at the effects of a tax law that reduced rates for five of the seven income-tax brackets and also reduced the corporate income-tax rate.
