To them having the last word, even following an argument or discussion that has resulted in them being on the losing side, their last word in parting gives them an illusion of being ‘right’. These people cannot face being bested even when their views are forcefully put forward with no evidence or justification to make a compelling case. they do not listen to or consider an alternative viewpoint, they simply have to be right.
