Tate wasn't legitimately saying he'd assault a woman, but he wasn't trying to joke either. his entire brand is being so alpha that "beat it up" from a woman elicits a violent response from him as a man, that women are legitimately asking for him to bring out the alpha. if you recall the quote he had it got to physical violence after he very unironically stated that this bit of sexy talk from a woman would lead to him violently making love to her. that she'd regret asking for that, even though she clearly wouldnt be asking for what he had in mind. that he'd use the literal interpretation of her words to hurt her from the inside.
