So why do modern conservatives fly the Confederate flag as part of their heritage? Why the outcry over Confederate statues? Why the upset over teaching the damaging effects of slavery?

Modern conservatives by and large don't do that. The ones that do? Not entirely sure, I don't do that, and am not a southerner. It's probably a generalized act of rebellion (justified), not a desire to own black slaves.

The outcry over confederate statues is probably the loss of cultural icons, and we've already seen that there's been calls for the toppling of other icons that have nothing to do with the confederacy. Considering what's actually happened in regards to calls for the removal of figures like Jefferson and Washington, I'd say that concern is justified.

No one is "upset over teaching the damaging effects of slavery". You're using those words to obfuscate the truth about CRT. That's not what CRT does.
