We would have lobbyist paying politicians to draft legislation that would only allow people with certain skill sets that they need to come to their country. Otherwise how would they know what we need and how corrupt is that inherently? And at this point is a government just acting as a recruitment apparatus for private business?

I have yet to talk to someone who means it in the context you're implying. Reading, writing, some language skills, etc. Then on top of that a questionnaire on whether they would respect the religious and social freedoms the west has. The logistics of that are still tough, but i dont think anyone's suggesting for instance that they target cab driver immigrants or falafel chefs.

I'd prefer it being delayed until there is a political opportunity to avoid a Brexit tbh ^

To deny democracy is the worst possible thing to do. Faith in politics would be even lower than it is now and far right groups would take advantage. If Farage had lost and called for another referendum we'd tell him to fuck off, why is it any different when the tables are turned?

You've got your america hat on, lobbying isn't anywhere near as prominent in Europe. A points based immigration system like Australia would be good for us, we've got too many people coming to a small island so to follow our ruthless self interest would be to start nitpicking and take the best ones. We wouldn't have to build as many houses, loosen greenbelt laws or have to spend as much on the NHS.

What are the 'best ones' in the context of the UK, I hear you say skinned? People with skills to alleviate our productivity crisis which has in part been fueled by disproportionately low skilled immigration. People that can pass basic literacy and reading comprehension tests in English. And people, as snipa mentioned, that have core principles of respect and decency (although difficult to ascertain)

I was thinking computer scientists, nurses, etc. One of my friends came here because the software companies collude with each other to keep programmers where they are and low paid. Came with BS in comp science for MS here works at CDC here does very well, from Nigeria.

In health care the doctor accents are often very heavy lol.

What I was thinking is private corporations creating their own pipelines to immigration by recruiting overseas and then having politicians create a system in their favor that would allow people they pick to have I expedited citizenship in the United States, for example.

BREAKING NEWS: Labour party back staying in the customs union (as opposed to complete split from the EU and forge our own trade deals)

Just when I write Corbyn off as a loon he does something that would make me consider voting for him if push came to shove.

The biggest thing to point out here is that it isn't THE customs Union, but A customs union. Reads a bit like cherry picking to me.

"The Labor opposition calls for the United Kingdom to remain in a customs union with Europe. A position rejected by the government, but welcomed by the business community and the conservative slingers."

===> He wants a customs union with the EU. But does he care if the EU wants it ?!

Of course not. He's not in power and doesn't have to deliver on what he says. He can promise whatever he wants.

Next election not scheduled til 2022 and highly doubt there's enough tory rebels to get the 2/3rds needed for a no confidence vote tbh.
