Maybe we are misunderstanding each other, but I am not talking about "pleasures." I am talking about the act of living. To say that life is a trial of tests and hardship sounds like a terrible attitude to me. Every second of life is a gift, including those "hardships." I for one am thankful for the hardships I have endured, just as I am thankful for those periods of "complacency and relative happiness."

I've heard that attitude from evangelicals before (that life sucks and all that matters is heaven) and it always reminded me of a kid on Christmas who gets a toy and a sweater, and on opening the sweater says "this sucks" to his parents before playing with the toy.

Whether or not it's "inference" is irrelevant and unimportant, the statement itself is still true. And I can contemplate that last sentence, but it's a contradiction and will never be true.

I never said life sucks but to think you will be thankful for all hardships only means you haven't hit the wall yet , most likely due to your short years . If we live long enough we all face tragedy that can never be overcome with the promise of future and temporary joy . There simply is not enough pleasure in the world to overcome spiritual pain and emptiness .

No it's necessarily true, according to every authority in virtually every field related or pertaining to logic. You saying it's false with absolutely nothing relevant to back yourself up will not change this. Sorry.
