Like... imagine Trump publicly offers the Democrats a "wall vs dreamers"-bargain during, say, his state of the union speech after more than a month of shutdown - how would Pelosi hold up her stonewalling without the public turning on her and the Democrats? At a point when everyone is tired of the shutdown and those directly affected by it are starting to panick, Trump would suddenly be the one who's offering a reasonable compromise, and he would suddenly be the one supporting protections for the Dreamers - a policy which is generally polling really well.
And conversely, the only reason the Democrats are in such a strong position right now is that the courts have stopped DACA from being phased out. Once the courts' protection of DACA ends, the leverage would instantly switch to Trump and there would be hell to pay. So Pelosi is also betting that she can force Trump into submission before the court protection for DACA runs out.
