Well, the "actual left" is such a weak force in American politics that "leftist" is often used interchangeably with "liberal" to denote the "Democratic Party"-flavor of leftism, which on an objective scale is center-left to center-right on economic issues, but drifting to the left very hard on cultural issues in recent years.

It's used so that conservative heavy can battle conservative lite while blaming the left. It's a long effective strategy

Well, if we divide political ideologies into "left" and "right" such that both the democrats and the republicans fall into the "right"-bin, as you suggest, then one has to clearly state that the "left" in your sense is completely atrophied in the United States.

What do you think are the reasons for that? If the "true™ left" was a superior ideology or concept, then why didnt it gain ANY traction for such a long period of time?

Because voter wise this has long been a right of center country with lots of Ghots mixed in. I haven't claimed anything about the left being a superior or popular ideology I'm saying conservatives mislabel establishment Democrat leaning profiteers as leftists and very often conservatives refer to them as far left as a political tactic and it's not true

Your conservative media and your political enemy's media both pushed for the same wars. They are buddy buddy with the same war mongers. Being anti trump for views doesn't change that. Being sjw outraged for 15 minutes at a time for views doesn't change that.

its like he's trying to be edgy to pull off some meme but just off unnecessarily racist and doesn't make a joke out of it. Which is particularly damning because Elizabeth Warren was really batting up the perfect pitch with that awful clip of hers, and trump at least somewhat salvaged it in the next tweet. It would be like mocking Shaun King by saying "If only he were on a plantation with fried chicken and a watermelon!". Like damn son, that's the 'taking it too far and not being funny enough' zone. You either leapfrog that entirely and go over the top, or you steer clear.

I remember saying at the time when he tweeted those videos (good luck finding a jsp post from a year ago, googlefu turns up nothing) that the media is really awful at skewering Trump whenever he does something objectionable because of the boy crying wolf effect. They get so obsessed with shrieking hysterically when he feeds koi fish or makes a typo that it just gets lost in the chaos whenever he does something actually bad. This isn't even making any blip on the news outside of the liberal circlejerks, not even a mention on cnn.com's front page anymore, and the clickbait media has already moved onto "Trump deletes tweet after goofing up his destination for a convention today". Oh dear, he accidentally said 'Nashville" instead of "New Orleans".

Most of the criticism isn't over silly things like typos or the koi pond though... it's him talking shit about Mika's face lift, or calling the media the enemy of the people, or criticizing his own senior advisers, or denigrating the FBI for the 500th time. All we have to do is play the Obama/George Bush test... had Obama said or tweeted what Trump did, would the media cover it? The answer is almost always yes.

Why be an adult and take the win he already had when he can mock one of our recent worst massacres and one that still weighs heavy on us till this day?
