Republicans have to learn that tantrums have consequences.

Doesn’t make sense to make the federal workers pay for it, tbh.

There was a vote to give back pay today. Republicans passed it unanimously. Democrats voted against unanimously.

I'm curious what you will do now. Perhaps blame orange man? Perhaps double down on EEEEEEVIL republicans?

Wait wtf - I looked up the bill and it hasn’t even been presented to the house yet.
Wtf is this bullshit?

Democratic leaders decided to call up a bill Wednesday to fund the entire government. But just before the final vote, Republicans made a motion to erase that bill and instead vote on a measure to ensure federal workers are paid.

The GOP motion failed 200-215, and these sorts of last-minute motions fail every time.

I want to see the actual bill.

A broken promise won't just be handed off as, "it's the democrats fault". Shows incompetence and lack of ability to get things done. When you have crowds of people chanting build the wall and it results in a big flop it won't be helping.

I kind of think it will, at least if you're a person on the right or of moderate political background. Dems haven't even brought up granting any money for a physical wall. Yet Repubs have reduced their asking price, offered DACA extensions. So, where are the Dems trying to compromise?

The only offers they've made specifically stated no funding be allowed towards wall construction. We already have parts of walls up from the past, and walls that were created under Obama.

They're literally only doing this to try to stop Trump from completing a campaign promise. So, if you take that perspective, they are at fault.

Overall, I question how much this matters for 2020. I still think Dems will vote Dems. Repubs will vote Repubs.

your idea of compromise is trump getting precisely what he wants? i mean it's fine to think that but i sure hope you have the self awareness to realize you aren't a moderate

His initial want was 25 billion for the wall. Additionally, he offered DACA extensions.

So no, he isn't getting precisely what he wants lol.

"The Democrat’s Dilemma
Illegal aliens cause economic harm to Americans because they consume far more in government services than they contribute in taxes. We make: they take."

"If a border wall prevented 160,000 to 200,000 illegal crossings (excluding descendants) in the next 10 years, it would be enough to pay for the estimated $12 to $15 billion costs of the wall"

"The Department of Homeland Security said that, in total, 521,090 individuals were either apprehended or deemed ”inadmissible” after arriving at a port of entry on the border during the 2018 fiscal year. In 2017, 415,517 people were caught crossing illegally or turned away, as were 553,378 in 2016."

Overall, illegals do enter from overstaying Visas, but having a secure border still stops some of the illegal immigration.

I have always hated the campaign promise mandate thinking as if the tiny minority of people who voted for trump even cared about the wall.

not only did trump kill DACA in the first place, he's also on the record saying that HE wants the dreamers to stay and become citizens - so how the fuck is a temporary extension considered a concession to the dems now?
that's like stealing someone's pizza, announcing publicly you don't want them to be hungry, and then offering them to smell it as a 'compromise'...
