Prosecutors had requested 2 years. Judge Jackson (notable pick of Obama's, and would have been his presumptive SCOTUS nominee if the democrats had held the senate) ruled narrowly on the penalty for lying to the FBI in isolation, disregarding any extra condemnation over the 'noncriminal' aspects of his conspiracy that he wasn't charged with / that weren't crimes. So even though he violated national security by leaking stories to the media to a NYT presstitute he was banging, he was just sentenced for the part where he lied about it to the FBI, and the rest discarded. And I think that's probably fair. After all, there are other measures of accountability in his personal and professional life. But the civil libertarian in me can't help but compare how the judge ruled in this case to the concept of hate crimes multipliers and the criminalization of protected free speech when it is an aggravating factor when charged with another crime. A judge can just wave her hands and say that the noncriminal-but-harmful-and-inappropriate conduct of one person is to be ignored at sentencing, but for another it can lock the up for years.

The amount of money at this point is really irrelevant, IMO. It's not going to be enough to really do anything "wall" related. What's much more impactful and profound is the clear example of a LARGE portion of our country wanting this wall. This is concrete proof, literally people's hard earned money, that this wall is something a large portion of America wants.

This should scare the shit out of the loony left. They spit and spew all day through TV, podcasts, and blogs/articles about how no one wants this, it's racist, it's immortal. blah blah blah.

Here we are, with a fucking go fund me page, with millions of dollars and tons of people donating. There are 100x people who want to the wall but are too lazy to donate, don't think ti'll do any good (me) or just don't know about it.

its a real fucking quagmire.... Lefties with heals dug in, but Trump let's them off the hook and owns the shutdown, while at the same time telling people mexico is paying for the wall, while at the same time stating the walls already started and incredible, while the lefties continue to say it's not popular (nor is a shutdown). both sides making unpopular decisions for what amounts to a pack of gum for the federal budget.

sometimes i think that, and sometimes i think back to childhood and remember people generally agreeing more. and i think the "let's try and see what happens" approach was more common. look at war on drugs, crime, etc. tossing shit at a wall knowing it might be 2 decades before you even know if it will work. now in the internet age someone "breaks the story" about some minor detail of a massive plan and everyone second guesses. worse yet if u have 100 people you'll get 10 groups of 10 that all have a gripe with something different. i really think the internet broke us, but we'll see in 50 years if it shakes out.
