Overall, the firearm homicide rate in our society has decreased throughout history trends based on data, but the media will try to say otherwise.

It's interesting how people can skew data, look at this chart from a gun control source.

However, suicides hold the majority of deaths. And, they specifically chose to use the year 1999.

But if you look at the larger scale statistics. Firearm homicide had actually decreased.
Notice how these also use "per 100,000" people. Versus using total concrete numbers as a total, as, the population will increase and when a population increases other numbers will as well. It's better data.

--trying to find sources such as those from the FBI, and with very most recent years, but not having much luck and not looking to put a ton more effort into this. Looked at it before in the past during some "rifle ban debate".

If anybody else has data for any side of things feel free to chip in.

The only areas with illegal gun problems are areas with high amounts of gun control. The long term solution is eliminating more gun control.

Tell that to the people fighting against illegal guns going to the drug cartels in Texas.

1. because you couldn't ban guns without getting all 50 states to ratify the changes to the United State's constitution (in America you can't just make changes whenever you want to certain things)
2. because we have more illegal guns in the hands of criminals than any other industrialized nation, by an order of magnitude

so legally we can't ban the guns, and logically it would only leave guns in the hands of criminals.

Yeah, I guess it's too late for it now :(

Funny that the 1. looks so much like the UE :X Nothing can change indeed.

But I mean, how could people expect that thoses guns wouldnt serve bad purposes ? It's just non-sense.

I'd still like to hear what people think of my gun control solution of 'voluntary, non-coercive taxpayer subsidized gun chip program that lets you install tracking chips in your own guns with any of your choice of options, ranging from letting police identify gun owner by waving a wand over an RFID chip up to having real-time location tracking and sending alerts when its fired / letting police see it on their display scanner'. It reframes the gun control debate as instead of taking away rights from law abiding gun owners, throw money at the problem and give responsible gun owners additional safety tools that they'd want to have. Maybe in some future, a school could be automatically placed on lockdown instantly when a kid enters the building with his father's handgun in a backpack, or that father could be alerted with a warning as soon as it leaves his house, or police responding to an active shooting could know the immediate location and identity of a 'good guy with a gun' on the scene.

Real-time location tracking for privately owned guns would be the NSA's wet dream. I dont think a lot of gun owners would be up for that. But say there is an "emergency gun" in a school principal's office, then it could make a lot of sense.

For privately owned guns, the most I can see having appeal to a large share of gun owners is a state- or region-tracking which alerts the gun owner (not the police!) if his gun is located outside of a certain radius around his home.

That was Arizona.

Note: Generally speaking, the places with high gun control do have greater problems with illegal guns. But they're not the only places that do.

this doesnt say anything about the causation though. do places with great problems with illegal guns pass stricter gun control laws, or does gun regulation cause people to evade those laws with illegal guns?

Side note, does anybody think there's going to be any lawsuits because of this Covington ordeal?
