Neither wanted to come forward. The Somali guy was talking to journalists on condition of anonymity and got doxxed by the people threatening him online who figured out who he was. He only went on the record months ago after it was pointless to maintain anonymity. But even after Ciaramella's identity was figured out, social media sites and print media and pundits and politicians all the way up to supreme court justice Roberts have been entertaining a farce by refusing to say his name even when they all know it and its pointless to pretend its secret.
i know the pic was more of a joke(at least should be), so i'm kind of debating how much to go into this. it wasn't a terrible joke, there's just a lot of confusion with whistleblowers.
there are a few separating factors that completely change the circumstance:
1. Voldemort works for the IC and until proven otherwise, went through proper channels to disclose information. he cannot be fired from his job for this (i'm aware he may not have used proper channels originally , but i cannot prove it at this time)
2. his name is protected from the public on the request of anonymity. you are not being arrested for speaking his name, they are just not releasing and confirming it. they also take action to prevent circumstance from doing so.
1. Shekh went to "journalists". they are not his employers and obviously not in a position to fire him. (protections are null here)
2. he went to journalists. the only one that can protect that conversation and his name, is the journalists he talked to. "if" the conversation was false or maliciously framed, a court could even force journos to reveal that source. (the journo can reveal or go to jail)
journos are not bound by law to keep these names secret as far as i'm aware. although it is possible to sue a journalist for damages after the fact.
again, i think the pic was more of a joke, but to clarify this better...
what protections do you believe Shekh is owed? and by who?
