well, that definitely makes this figure more prominent than i was reading him to be.

still, i think "whistleblower" is a bit of a stretch. even if you want to tag the title to him, his protections are different from whistleblowers within the IC. the only thing protecting this guy is the Bill of Rights, and that's pending who's reading it.
the "Voldemort" whistleblower from the Ukraine crap, is alleged to use proper channels to bring the claim to light. (i know that's a bit false since he reportedly went to Schiff's office first)

that is kind of the thing though. even Snowden isn't technically a "whistleblower", he's a leaker of classified information. even if we are happy to see the info revealed, it was brought out through improper channels and he will be punished by law if he comes back to USA.
Shekh is just another person giving info to the press that can't be verified without investigation. (not saying it's bad or that the info shouldn't be released, just saying protections are different)

And yet its the same token- Republicans said that theres no whistleblower law protecting Ciaramella and he went through unauthorized channels, and Democrats said he should be protected anyway and that hes still a whistleblower. They gushed about the dangers he faced from Trump supporter threats and retaliation for coming forward. Wouldn't it be immensely hypocritical for someone like Adam Schiff to say that this guy who is coming forward with knowledge of crimes by a government official is not technically a whistleblower and shouldn't be protected despite already facing repeated death threats and stalking?

there's a difference in protections here/

"Voldemort" only has his name protected by policy of the IC. to your point, he was also being protected from even testifying in a classified setting. that is Schiff's work and anyone sensible already knows why. it's also not a common protection

Shekh has already put their name out, although he's not protected by the IC's policies even if he didn't. if he wanted to remain anonymous, "the press" would have to honor that request for it to happen.
he is protected by the U.S. constitution if he is a U.S. citizen.
also, both Shekh and Voldemort have listed "rumor", until proven to be fact.

i want to expand on this but i have to rush to work. this statement is incomplete

Neither wanted to come forward. The Somali guy was talking to journalists on condition of anonymity and got doxxed by the people threatening him online who figured out who he was. He only went on the record months ago after it was pointless to maintain anonymity. But even after Ciaramella's identity was figured out, social media sites and print media and pundits and politicians all the way up to supreme court justice Roberts have been entertaining a farce by refusing to say his name even when they all know it and its pointless to pretend its secret.

I think the real questions for today are:

- Why Russia want to get Trump re-elected ?
- Why the info (From intel director's aide to lawmakers) made Trump so upset he decided to fire the aide's boss ?

I actually think that Russia wants Trump in office not so much because America is a mess under him and rather because he's favoring an isolationist and unilateralist approach to foreign policy, both of which is in Russia's best interest. America being dragged down by neverending domestic skirmishes imho is just a welcome side effect.

I totally agree, it's not necessarily about supporting a candidate that's 'pro Russia' it's about supporting a candidate that half the country is going to screech for another 4 years and not care about anything else. If at every step of the way the other party is opposing everything then the country is at a standstill.
