I'd hope I'm a realist more than a pessimist. Its just that the pretrial polling showed a horrible bias against Kyle, and most jurors ignore everything at a trial. And I think at the end of the day, there will be two categories of people who could have been chosen for this jury. Those that are reasonable, willing to weigh the facts, aren't keen on the rioters, and come to a conclusion it was justifiable self defense. And there will be people who listen to MSNBC, still think Kyle is a white supremacist and will vote to convict no matter what and will be utterly unshakeable and would have been like uncle ruckus pulling out a rope in the courtroom. And the latter outnumber the former. Any mix of the two categories results in a mistrial after a lengthy deliberation. It won't matter how much the sane jurors try to convince them, a shrill harpy wearing nu-feminist goggles and clawing at her cardigan would need no more reason than thinking she's denying Trump one vote in 2024. Well, if the potential jurors are indeed a 1:2 mix or so, it seems very unlikely we'll get a full acquittal. I'd love to be proven wrong

agreed.. the media is portraying him as a white supremacist; he supports cops, so he is one obv.. and i think the only reason he would get convicted is to appease

he should be found not guilty imo

Representative Karen Bass (D-CA) told CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that the two white men killed by Kyle Rittenhouse during a protest were like white civil rights activists killed in the 1960s.

Quote
Presenter Jake Tapper said, “Kyle Rittenhouse is a white man accused of shooting three other white men and killing two. Explain how you think there is a racial dimension in this matter? “

Bass said, “Now remember, where were the white men killed?” During a demonstration, demonstrating in solidarity for blacks, so to me it was like the Civil Rights Movement when you had young white people participating in sit-ins and demonstrations

well there we have it. (D) party leaders are calling convicted child abusers and domestic assaulters “just like Civil Rights Movement supporters”

In her defense, Rosa Parks beat the shit out of her children so I could understand why she would say something like that.

So my two big questions at this point would be how long the jury is going to require to come to a verdict, and whether or not the DoJ is going to press federal charges.

Since double jeopardy protection is no longer a thing, and all.

We'll know tomorrow. If they believe it was self-defense, they'll quickly rule in Kyle's favor and he'll be a free boy. If it takes longer than a day, that probability goes down substantially.

Why do you think it's a possibility that the DOJ will pursue federal charges?

Well, if it takes longer than a day, I'd tend to lean towards hung jury. Quick makes me think either a guilty charge or acquittal though.

And I don't know if the word "probability" fits exactly, but possibility due to Biden directly opining on the case. The precedent would be set by the Chauvin Federal Charges. And those charges are BS. They're over the same actions he's already been tried for. Clear double jeopardy violation.

I couldn’t imagine the DoJ going after him. It is becoming evident to the general public how outrageous the administration is handling things. Trying to overturn a jury’s decision will sure open some eyes.

Chauvin was a public servant though whereas Kyle is just a random civilian. You could make the argument, albeit a weak one, that Chauvin discriminated against Floyd due to his race. I don't think you could make that argument here.
