Since you're from an immigrant family I don't expect you to understand that free speech only applies to the government punishing people. It's an absolute requirement of free speech and free association that society can punish and respond to offensive speech.

Also, this kind of shit isn't new. If anything we're in an age where you can touch more topics than ever. I grew up totally surrounded by conservatives and I'll tell you without any shred of doubt they place more societal pressure on what you can and can't say on a day by day basis than liberals can ever dream. Although its much heavier from the older generations of conservatives than the younger ones.

99% of the conservative motivation against the PC culture is just a child being told they can't have something.

Do people want to be able to use "nigger" in public? no.

Do people want to do a program that has a minstrel show? no.

but they want to be told they can't far less.

As to the fake part.

Most of my family were murdered by the government. The survivors lost themselves. Addiction and poverty and violence that spawned from the genocide and massacres plague the ground I was born on. Our culture torn from us and we are mocked at every turn. There is nothing fake about my feelings and the love I have for my people. These are issues I've fought for and spoke on since I was old enough to do so and the same goes for others like me. We miss our families. We Lakota mourn our lost every year and some of us every day. This is real to me and real to us.

Tbh the power is speech lies in the capability to use the medium to understand one another or to explain ideas. Free speech has never been an issue on saying anything of valuable on this forum.
