his ugly optics have unarguably cost him incalculable results in his presidency.

his tone, behavior, divisiveness, inability to stay on topic, anti-PC mission, etc have cost him dearly. he had a mandate, he squashed it, got nothing done, and is not a 1-5 year lame duck president unless he can clear out the optics and win back the House without losing the Senate at the same time. he's currently Nanci and Chuck's bitch, legislatively. he has Executive orders, and fuckall else.

when Obama had EOs and fuckall else, he created DACA, which the GOP still havent been able to rescind. and if RBG doesnt make it till nov 2020, then he'll leave a solid 6-3 conservative majority SCOTUS as his major legacy.

his path forward without changing the optics and winning back the legislature is to go after pure bipartisan avenues to get something done. criminal justice reform is a tasty flavor but he'll find it's far less bipartisan than the first measure once he gets further than skin deep. and that's it. there are no other issues that he can tackle in a bipartisan manner.

i-i-i-i-infrastructure week!

when people speak about trump's rhetoric with narratives like "he gets it done" or "he says what he has to" they're just being childishly naive. he has cost himself a great deal in his quest to counter the PC culture and media. no pragmatic person or anyone with a shred of logic could deny it. his first 2 years with both houses was squandered. at least Obummer got the healthcare bill.

Ive said it a day or two ago, and Ill say it again: Trump/the GOP did not have full control of the Senate, they never had a filibuster-proof majority like Obama did when he passed the ACA.

and the exact things that are costing him now that he's the president, are the things that have gotten him into the white house in the first place. a career politician in his position would have abandoned all the rhetoric and policies from the campaign trail once sworn in, while Trump has stayed true to himself. this is suboptimal for himself and for the country, but this authenticity is part of his appeal to his base.

well, trump got his tax cuts - and even though they largely benefit the wealthy and corporations (and therefore clearly aren't what he promised to his voters), you can't deny that it's a legislative 'achievement'. a terrible, selfish, and costly one maybe, but still...

and just to name one prominent example of what I'm talking about:

during the Kavanaugh confirmation, when Kav was under fire, it would have been easier and safer for Trump to drop Kav and go with Coney Barrett or someone like her. Instead, he said "fuck it" and stuck by Kav despite the ugly optics. In the end, he got him confirmed and made a stand against a #metoo-movement which had gone out of control, he made a stand against allowing completely unverified accusations to derail someone's career. He was successful in the sense of achieving his primary objective (getting Kavanaugh confirmed), and he denied the #metoo-movement and the Democrats a victory for their smear campaign, even though the whole thing probably cost him a couple of additional seats in the House.

the GOP can't kill DACA or even make changes due to how divisive Trump has made immigration talks. again, his rhetoric hurts what his legislature can do.

he'll find similar roadblocks on infrastructure, pun intended. a Wall was a bipartisan thing until Trump called for it. noticing a pattern? whatever he touches turns to dogshit.

afaik it's still not written into law, it's a temporary measure that can be undone by a future POTUS without involving the legislature. so it isn't really a legislative achievement as much as a budgetary achievement. it's exposed and ready to be undone in a penstroke. MAYBE Trump is able to put it into law by 2024 when someone else gets in, but i doubt it. he wont have the legislature ever again imo.

as compared to Scott Walker who put in legitimate roadblocks in the legislature for teachers unions to regain collective bargaining right's. not that it's an issue for a governor with a blue legislature, but if you have a purple legislature/governor or potus it's still stuck on the lawbooks.

I think the resident Native-American makes a pretty good point:

But hey... don't acknowledge the legitimacy of his feelings, just call him a pussy, and me a snowflake. That's manliness in the age of Trump.

He is a pussy and fuck his fake oppressed feelings. A mere reference to native related events= racism, groups lining up to get their two cents in and play the victim card, etc. Fuck PC culture, it ruined Hollywood and all that’s left is garbage super hero movies that almost all have the same shallow plots.

You claim you miss the 90s and 00s because it was less politically correct but you're full of shit. It was different political correct. When Christian conservatives were in the lead of what we see today. When being outed as gay could ruin your life. When criticizing war and the justice system and the actions of the country could ruin you.

You miss power. You miss being able to offend anyone you want but they couldn't fight back in a more conservative society.

You miss your version of political correctness not being a loser

I miss MadTV, I miss movies where the black guy can be a thug without columnists giving some 3deep5me explanations of how’s its racism. I miss Swarzenegger fighting Arabs or Stallone mowing down Asians. I’m a first gen immigrant, I never had power. I am going to fight for the right to free speech and expression against pussies like you that like to take the moral high ground and guilt people into behaving how you want them to.

Your ideology turned Hollywood to shit fuck you.

Trump calls Warren "Pocahontas" for years, the left and natives respond with eyerolls and some HuffPost-Opinion page "dassa racism" stuff. but overall underwhelming response.

Trump invokes a bloody massacre, people get comparatively more upset. he crossed a line.

the same way that when Don jr said "schekles" it got a few "hey now, wait up" responses but if he invoked the Holocaust it would cause an uproar.

your inability to recognize the difference in scale off offensiveness, if that's actually where you are, just shows you're as biased and unthinking on the matter as the worst SJW's. any time someone takes offense you react just like your masters told you too. no nuance, no thought, no logic, etc. maybe that's just how you like it.

I dont threaten free speech. I demand compassion and maturity from the powerful leader of this country. He has an obligation to not intentionally further divide us over petty shit he has already won. If you weren't such a hack you would be able to spend 1 minute doing what even goom did and point out it was wrong.
