There's nothing manly about being completely insensitive to other people's feelings, or invoking massacres and racial stereotypes to attack a political opponent.
You Trump people have turned masculinity on it's head... now being a bully and a prick is seen as the pinnacle of manliness.
thats the whole point:
in recent decades, the culture of political correctness has increasingly created an environment in which a docile, considerate, submissive behavior is encouraged, if not expected. the climate is increasingly such that any white and any male, and white males in particular, who dont submissively and proactively chastise themselves for their privilege and the sins of their ancestors are considered rude and outrageous.
but assertiveness, standing by one's principles and beliefs, striving for dominance and fighting/aspiring for as high a position in society as possible is indeed archetypical manly behavior. in the current climate, however, it is labeled as "being a bully and a prick", or as "toxic masculinity".
more generally speaking:
they want whites and/or males to keep their heads down and cede power and wealth to other groups, no matter if the white male comes from a position of true privilege and wealth, or if he is actually poor and underprivileged to begin with. it's somewhat working with college-educated whites, and white college-educated women in particular, who are well-off and indeed have some privilege, and who will still remain relatively privileged even if they give some of their privilege away. it is failing spectacularly with non-privileged whites, and white men in particular, which is often times operationalized by the proxy variables "working-class" or "non-college educated" in polls. Trump is the living embodiment of a big fat F U to all of that, and that's why he does so well with white men without a college degree.
