i think two points that temper yours are that:
1. bidens favor-ability is being challenged every day with outbursts and clear signs of aging
2. trump had tepid support from republican establishment, but still got republican votes.
im curious to see how many "i just wont vote for HRC" voters were out there compared to actual trump voters (and further what % feel the same about Biden), and what the falling stock market will do to Trump's moderate support.
Yes, Biden's mental decline is the big unknown of this race when it comes to the candidates, and the economy (and the healthcare system's ability to deal with the fallout of the coronavirus epidemy) is the big unknown when it comes to exogenous factors.
But as I said before: Biden only needs to win a majority of delegates to clinch the nomination. from that point on, if Biden's decline turns out to be so rapid that he wont be a viable candidate for the general election, the DNC can replace him with someone else. Now, who could that be?
They dont want Bernie. Everyone else from this year's Demcoratic field proved to be weak. So they would be looking for a person who's very qualified, perhaps even the most qualified. They would be looking for some diversity. They would be looking for someone who has proven able to win more votes than Trump. You know where this is going...
Hillary 2016: It's my turn
Hillary 2020: I am inevitable
