I just tried it, searching for just the term "blexit" on google, bing, yahoo and duckduckgo.

on google, the site showed up on page 3. on the other 3 search engines, it didnt show up at all until I had enough and stopped going even deeper down the search results.

so, I couldnt replicated what was reported in this article.
either the ""mistake"" was on the other search engines who had "failed" to block the blexit site when this article was written, and have it blacklisted now.
or there is no active censorship on this one, and the blexit site just has poor search engine optimization.

I really dont know how or why the author got it as the first result on yahoo/bing/duckduckgo.

i'd bet on that, most of the "censorship" articles i've seen that is to blame. info wars finds some site that's not optimized well and then blames google, and their fans eat it up. then it gets traction from the article and it goes up, but not markedly, because the optimization remains the same and most are linked from the article not the search engine to traffic the site.

well, in this specific case, the site showing up as the #1 result on all other search engines, but only on page 3 on google, would have been very fishy. that's why I tried to replicate it.... to find that - at least for me for whatever reason - the other engines have it even lower than google.

We're at this funny intersection of censorship outrage based on technological misunderstandings/hoaxes due to black box methods, actual widespread big tech censorship that is being purposefully obfuscated, and a false narrative of net neutrality misdirection outrage towards IPs that really aren't doing much of anything wrong. Just look at the Youtube HQ mass shooter, James Damore and the shitstorm endured by Ajit Pai. The YT shooter had a persecution complex over her videos being demonetized, but that was only a rather unintentional side-effect of the broad strokes of censorship on youtube driven partly by a need to sanitize for advertisers and partly out of political manipulation- as James Damore showed. But her persecutory delusions were overimagined, because she was simply too irrelevant for anyone to actually care. Yet all contemporaneously with the censorship crusade being taken by big tech was the net neutrality hissy fit that insisted that IPs would run amok creating an orwellian internet dystopia, and ajit pai was getting death threats to his family for it. No amount of logic or reason could permeate through the bubble of hate mob mentality.

Personally I don't find it hard to piece together which forms of censorship are malicious and which are unintentional and the overlap between them. I just imagine how I'd program it, if I were evil.

100% agree, and would only mix in that programmers understand more than alt right tinfoilers what they can get away with and what they can get caught easily in. when people imply obvious censorship i tune them out, as it's generally further backed up by more speculative garbage about how brazen they can be because of "PC culture". too many intangibles baked into the cake and too little face validity. but the reality of censorship in some legit cases means they have confidence it's everywhere.

not quite censorship but a case of the media literally trying to prevent a handicapped person from exercising his rights

Did Gab ever apologize and begin taking actions to reign in their users conduct?

Why should they? They defend free speech.

If not its not the same situation.

Btw if you want a cesspool of free expression try fourchan.

What you guys want already exists and has for over a decade.
