Terrorists have no problems killing the families on innocent people. Since we're so soft, every attack they commit is a win-win situation. If they do it and get away, then their people view them as heroes. If they do it and get captured/killed, they believe they achieve martyrdom and take solace in knowing their families won't be hurt and they'll go to "heaven".

Unfortunately, I think the only way to stop terrorism is to do some very nasty things to those involved, knowing damn well that if the roles were reversed, the enemy would have no problem doing the same (or worse) to you. The families of terrorists aren't very likely to be totally innocent either. They most likely know what's being planned and that people are going to die, but they don't report it or condemn it. They sit and cheer the terrorists along.

Israel has had a HUGE problem with terrorism, considering they're surrounded by nations that inherent hate Jews. For centuries they've had to deal with terrorism, and have become pretty good at it. They built a huge wall, don't allow Muslim migrants, and punish terrorists extremely severely. There was a recent article mentioning how Israelis will take a captured terrorist and put pig meat all over his body to make sure he dies disgraced and doesn't reach the heaven he believes in. They'll also go after the family in a very strong manner. It's a terrible thing to do, but it works. You can't win a war by being politically correct and limiting yourself to a set of rules the enemy surely won't adhere to.

I think we need spend billions of dollars and thousands of lives invading and occupying furniture stores. Additionally, we should set up a national security apparatus that monitors the cell phone use of every American. We need to make sure they are safe from their own furniture.
