But it is actually the lower 40-80% of the population who suffers the most from things like inflation, a choked off economy, shipping jobs overseas, poverty immigration, bad public education, a crumbling infrastructure, increasing crime and so on.

Its pretty ironic. Good argument against direct democracy and for a republic.

That's what I really cant understand: the fact that the mainstream politicians and elites are still politically competitive, sometimes even winning electons, despite this utter disregard for the safety and the future demographic, economic and cultural outlook of their constituents. Why so many people are so stupid and still havent punished them a lot harder at the ballot for their failure is really beyond me.

please stop using the word "elites" when talking about such people

i know the meaning in this context, but these guys are as far away from being an elite as i can possibly imagine

There is a dissonence in perceived threat, one tries to save the country from a perceived invasion, the other tries to save it by saving the planet. And there are obviously a lot of mixes in between.

Funny part where some of the left and the (more populist) right can unite is that they want to avoid exploitation of the poorer working class, the difference is that the right is more likely to blame the established politicians, mano a mano, while the left is more likely to blame the power shift towards the banking system and large multinationals within capitalism. An example of where we can see those groups uniting is the yellow vest movement, which is not that much based on the fuel tax increases alone.

Eventually though, within a more global world with increasing global influences to deal with we do need to reform politics all together. It's not gonna be easy, but we need rises for the right, from the left, from the scandinavians, from the mediterranians, from the slavs and from the rest of our economical and political power house to deal with the future. What I can't understand is isolationism, where you can only do so much as a single country, and where our army would actually be useless, as it already is a part of the puzzle, of a European army.

That has already done quite a bit for taking next steps in co-operating between EU members.. Them leaving is not too bad. (or more precise: has its benefits within the loss of a (rather critical) member making us stronger)

okey. I agree with Barlog and quite a few others on the issue.

Going back the the EU right now would be shameful. The brits are too proud to be the bitch of the EU for the next 2 decades. quote this if you want.

this is true, but if the left is really serious about it they should think about their migration policy
what they have been doing for years is putting additional pressure on the working class, which is why the social democrats have been obliterated in recent elections all over europe

there already is a unified military effort, why do we need more? and who would even command an european army? the EU democracy deficit is already bad enough, giving them an army is out of the question
also there are way too many question marks about organisation and status, recruitment, funding etc
right now this would be the fastest way into a EU mercenary army, no thanks

by the way, multicultural armies have never been a good idea in history
